GOED Honors Industry Veterans with Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Global Organization for EPA and DHA Omega-3s (GOED) hosted its biennial conference GOED Exchange in late January in Athens, Greece. At the premier event for the omega-3 industry, the organization continued its tradition of honoring individuals who have positively influenced the industry with Lifetime Achievement Awards.

This year’s esteemed recipients are Dr. Philip Calder and Dr. Andrew Sinclair, two prominent figures in the field of omega-3 fatty acids research.

Dr. Philip Calder is head of the School of Human Development and professor of immunology in the faculty of medicine at the University of Southampton in the UK., His research primarily focused on the metabolism and functionality of fatty acids and the influence of diet and nutrients on immune and inflammatory responses. As one of the most prolific authors on EPA and DHA omega-3s, with more than 800 scientific publications, his research has significantly advanced the industry’s knowledge of these essential nutrients and their contribution to health.

Dr. Andrew Sinclair is an emeritus professor in the faculty of health at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He is also an adjunct professor at Monash University and a guest professor at Qingdao University in Qingdao, China. He has been involved in research on a variety of polyunsaturated fatty acids including ALA and DPA, as well as EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids. He was also a part of the ISSFAL committee that wrote the “Recommendations for Intake of Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids for Healthy Adults” in 2004, which included the recommended daily intake of 500 mg of EPA and DHA for cardiovascular health.
